1.To maintain a fixed exchange rate,a country has to buy domestic currency in the foreign exchange market if its income increases while its trading partners' incomes remain constant.
2.If speculators are conviced that the US dollar is overvalued under Hong Kong's present linked exchange rate system that are likely to convert US dollars into HK dollars and banks will then have to lower the interest rates on Hong Kong dollar deposits in order to resist such presure.
