B381 Course objectives
1 Explain what a commercial bank is and does.
2 Describe the banking system and regulatory framework for
commercial banks in Hong Kong.
3 Identify customers and explain the banker-customer relationship.
4 Describe the general practice and operation of commercial banks in
Hong Kong.
5 Outline various banking products and services, and describe the basic
product features and mechanisms.
6 Apply a complete process of bank lending that includes identifying
the borrowing cause, credit assessment and loan management.
7 Identify the specific banking needs of corporate clients and formulate
treasury management strategies such as restructuring, optimal
financing mix, floating of new Issues, project finance and
securitization.
8 Describe the major challenges in the banking industry with respect to
technological advancement, deregulation and globalization.
