Lascombe 95/96

Lascombe 95/96

Has any one tried these recently?

The norm for Lascombe is "avoid all pre-1999 vintages".  However, in Jan 2007, WS give its 95 89 points and the 96 88 points.  Neal Martin also give the 96 89 points after a tasting in May 2008 (no notes for 95).  Were these being overlooked by our long term prejudice against this out-of-favor chateau?

RP92: ...the 2001 continues the great success this estate is enjoying under the guidance of Yves Vatelot (of Chateau Reignac) and Dr. Alain Raynaud (Chateau Quinault l’Enclos). A blend of 55% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot, it spent 18 months in cask (4 on its lees), and was bottled unfiltered. A dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by ripe aromas of spring flowers, blueberries, blackberries, and cassis. Medium-bodied, stylish, and elegant, with sweet tannin, impressive concentration, tremendous persistence as well as flavor intensity, and a 40+ second finish, this noble claret should be at its finest between 2005-2016.

Below is the tasting note of the 2001 Lascombe by Neal Martin (score from him 87).  Looks like he is more accurate RP.

A very flattering, very floral quintessential Margaux nose with great purity and an almost Burgundian feel. Very pure medium-bodied palate with well-integrated tannins but lacking some backbone under that sumptuous veneer. Lacks a little breeding, rather obvious. Tasted October 2007.
