Despite it being illegal to drive a car whilst using a mobile phone, many drivers can still be seen flouting the law on our roads.
Are reaction times impaired if the driver is engrossed in conversation on a mobile phone, or have the drivers heightened awareness making them able to cope with the unexpected?
A random sample of drivers agreed to take part in an experiment where their reaction times were measured while driving with and without the use of a mobile phone.
Their reaction times (in milliseconds) are shown below.
